Brooke Atkinson

Brooke Atkinson is a Licensed Professional Counselor offering clinical counseling at Dawning Phoenix, both in-person at the Gainesville office, and through telemental health (virtual/online). Brooke sees clients of all ages in multiple formats: individual counseling (children/adolescents & adults), family therapy, and couples for marriage or premarital therapy, with a background in group therapy as well. She specializes in trauma and abuse, anxiety, depression, domestic violence, mental illness, family and/or relationship issues, divorce, and personal growth. Her therapeutic approach to counseling is founded in attachment theory which encompasses a biopsychosocial model of assessment, conceptualization, and treatment. Brooke is also willing to go to court, if necessary for the best interest of clients.

Ms. Atkinson’s professional background includes over 20 years of experience in trauma-related fields including law enforcement, expert witness, guardian ad litem, and counseling. Brooke has worked with counseling agencies serving children, adolescents, and adults, and held multiple positions in management of counseling & other staff. She has used a variety of theoretical models and techniques including play therapy techniques, CBT, DBT, and more. She works with clients ranging from the ‘worried well’ to those with serious and persistent mental illness. Brooke has taught continuing education for counselors and provided training to other groups for professional development.
