Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence

Articles that inform our choices more thoroughly can be helpful, especially with emergence of the compound CBD, differentiated from THC (the hallucinogenic compound in marijuana that can damage someone’s brain). Evidence now acknowledges that a predisposition for schizophrenia can be triggered by recreational use of marijuana, setting the stage for lifelong severe mental illness. It is especially important to use reliable prescribers at all times, and even more so for novel applications of substances to mental or emotional  conditions. Counselors discourage the use of any drugs for recreational purposes and strongly encourage responsible use of prescribed substances only under ethical medical supervision.
